UpFRONT Festival: Crystal Shawanda (Scott Street)

Crystal Shawanda is a Canadian Ojibwe Potawatomi singer-songwriter who rose to prominence in country music with her 2008 RCA Nashville debut, Dawn of a New Day, becoming the first full-blood Indigenous woman to reach the Billboard country top 20. A multiple Juno Award winner, including for blues album of the year, she later transitioned to blues with acclaimed albums such as Church House Blues and Midnight Blues. Blending the influence of Etta James with her country roots, Shawanda has created a distinctive sound that bridges both genres. This is a free event. All are welcome to celebrate Indigenous artists and culture as part of the UpFRONT Festival. Located on Scott Street, in between Meridian Hall and St. Lawrence Centre for the Arts.
