Event Details

An exclusive event with Ahmed Moneka’s very own personal and uplifting project Moneka Arabic Jazz and opening set by our guest Zale Seck. Currently based in Québec, Zale Seck is a maestro of diverse rhythms, seamlessly blending Afrobeat, Senegalese rumba, and more into his sonic tapestry. Born and bred in Dakar, his musical journey began amidst the bustling streets of the capital, where the vibrant pulse of Senegalese life infused his soul with an insatiable passion for melody. Zale’s music serves as a powerful homage to the traditions of his homeland while embracing contemporary influences. At the heart of Zale’s music lies the Senegalese rumba, a genre that pulsates with the infectious energy of Dakar’s nightlife. Drawing on his Afro-Sufi musical heritage, Juno-nominated Ahmed Moneka presents a vibrant and transcendent fusion of African rhythms and Arabic folk melodies, enriched by contemporary influences of funk, soul, and jazz. Reflecting on his personal journey as an artist, actor, and activist—who fled Baghdad for Toronto as a refugee after his involvement in a film about gay rights—Moneka, alongside his stellar global ensemble, invites listeners to a jubilant celebration of life. His music explores love in all its forms while evoking a deep sense of longing for one’s homeland, all through original compositions and timeless Middle Eastern classics. Tickets
