The Sympathetic String Band is a Toronto-based acoustic ensemble known for fusing renaissance tonality with free improvisational music. They frequently interweave non-standard stringed instruments like Appalachian and hammered dulcimers, bowed and plucked psaltries, and unconventionally tuned guitars to create a highly atmospheric, exploratory sound.
