Jonathan Nvita is a Toronto-based Afro-jazz vocalist, composer, and multi-instrumentalist originally from
Kinshasa, DR Congo. Blending African rhythmic traditions with contemporary jazz, his music creates a powerful dialogue between heritage and modern expression. A graduate of Humber College (Bachelor of Music in Voice) with further studies in sound recording at McGill University, Jonathan brings both artistic depth and technical precision to his work.
His debut album Mosisa (2025), meaning “the roots,” reflects a return to origin—honouring culture, spirituality, and the people who shaped him. Through rich vocal textures, intricate rhythms, and global influences, his sound is both intimate and expansive.
Having performed at notable Toronto venues such as Lula Lounge, The Rex, Drom Taberna, and various
festivals in the city, Jonathan continues to build a strong presence on the live scene. His work is guided by a simple philosophy: music is spiritual—a force that connects, heals, and transcends boundaries.
Sounds Like Toronto - Sounds Like the World is generously supported by the City of Toronto through the Community Celebration Support Fund.
