Curated by Canada’s
Music Incubator (CMI), this evening features KUNÉ, a boundary-crossing
collective of immigrant musicians from Iraq, Cuba, Peru, Burkina Faso, and
China, alongside one Métis Canadian artist.
KUNÉ’s artistic practice
reflects the lived experience of Toronto—one of the world’s most diverse
cities—through a powerful dialogue of cultures and traditions. Their
performances unite instruments rarely heard together on one stage, including
the tar, dizi, cajón, and ngoni. Together, the ensemble composes, arranges, and
performs original music that honours their distinct roots while building new
connections through curiosity, experimentation, and exchange.
Since 2012, CMI has
supported more than 1,800 artists and music professionals nationwide, helping
to build sustainable careers through programs such as its flagship Artist
Entrepreneur Program. Its growing alumni community includes 2026 Juno-nominated
artists Noeline Hofmann, Jutes, Sebastian Gaskin, Cassie & Maggie,
Aysanabee, and Anthony Delesandro.
