JazzInToronto's Songbird Series: Denielle Bassels Celebrates International Denielle Bassels - vocals Jay Yoo - guitar Henry Heillig - bass Denielle Bassels is a Juno-nominated vocalist and songwriter rooted in jazz, folk, blues and swing whose voice has been described as soulful, unique and emotionally direct. Born in Toronto and forged on international stages, she first found her jazz wings singing in underground clubs across Europe before returning home to become one of Canada’s most dynamic performers. Her music defies easy categorization, weaving intimate storytelling with genre-bending energy that has been featured widely on national radio and at major festivals. Fresh from a three-month immersion in Paris, France, Bassels returns energized, carrying new stories and a renewed creative spark. In celebration of International Women’s Day, she presents an evocative set of originals and reinterpretations performed with her trio, with Jay Yoo on guitar and Henry Heilig on bass, a performance marked by strength, nuance, and heartfelt expression.
