For this special Jazz Friday, we welcome Club Django Toronto, Toronto’s longest-running gypsy swing ensemble and a cornerstone of the Canadian jazz scene for over 18 years.
Inspired by the vibrant cafés and dance halls of 1930s Paris, Club Django Toronto brings to life the infectious swing, melodic elegance, and fiery virtuosity of the legendary Quintette du Hot Club de France, made famous by Django Reinhardt and Stéphane Grappelli. Their sound blends driving rhythm guitars, lyrical violin, expressive accordion, and dynamic soloing into an unmistakable style that is both timeless and exhilarating.
Celebrated by critics and audiences alike, Club Django Toronto has received national recognition, including the Canadian Collector’s Congress Award for Best Traditional / Classic Jazz Performance, and has been praised by The Toronto Star for delivering “an industrial-strength workout of 1930s Parisian jazz.” Their performances are known for warmth, energy, and a deep respect for the roots of gypsy swing—music that invites listeners to tap their feet, smile, and be transported.
This Jazz Friday promises an intimate and lively evening of classic swing standards and Django Reinhardt compositions such as Minor Swing, Nuages, Daphne, and Douce Ambiance, performed with spirit, authenticity, and joy. Whether you are a longtime jazz lover or discovering gypsy swing for the first time, this is a rare opportunity to experience one of Toronto’s most respected jazz ensembles in a close, atmospheric setting.
